Dance Magic
About the Workshop
In this workshop, we will utilize the physical experience of dancing to music as a way to venture into the unknown. We will tap into the simple yet profound joy of being in a body on this earth. Through that we will dive deeper into the wildness of our physicality so we can shift into the spirit realm as we let go of other aspects of our selves. After tapping into the vast unknown universe around and within us, we will start to allow our will, our intentions, to flow along with it. As we allow ourselves to be changed by the experience, we’ll find that our intentions will change to match the flow.
We will do all this sequentially with different parts of our bodies over the first three parts of the weekly workshop, then combining them all together in the fourth week. Music will be a vital part of this experience, as we learn to surrender to the beat and weave our will into the melody. Warmups, breathwork, and sharing our experiences with each other will be a vital part of each class. Each participant is expected to practice what they’ve learned outside of class, ideally on a daily basis. If you are not ready to open yourself up further to the consuming nature of transformation, this workshop is not for you.
This workshop will be weekly on Tuesday at 6:30pm August 13th, 20th & 27th and September 3rd at The Sanctuary building at Joshua Tree Retreat Center.
Each class will be about two hours, possibly a little less, and optionally you can stay afterwards to dip in the pool and hot tub courtesy of the Retreat Center.
The cost is sliding scale of $80-$160 for the entire workshop. There’s a $40 deposit required upon registration and the rest is due at the first class. Every participant is required to attend all four parts (barring extreme unforeseen circumstances). The workshop will have a maximum of 11 participants.
If you’re unable to attend this workshop, please sign up for the DanceMagic newsletter to hear about future events. My hope is to repeat the workshop and Dance Wave event on a quarterly basis.
In addition, anyone is welcome to attend an additional Dance and Vocal Magic facilitated by Elka Wilder:
Participants will explore the capacity of the body, mind, and spirit to open, ground, and express through improvisational movement while integrating their “full spectrum” voice. We’ll move and sound with the elements of Earth, and with the elements of Life. We’ll dance and sing some of our personal karmic challenges and weave them into a transformational tapestry of Liberation. This class is for everyone with a voice, not just for people who consider themselves “good at singing.”
Elka Wilder “found her voice” in a wilderness river canyon where she lived off-grid and guided guests from all over the world in ReWilding practices and skills for 23 years. She’s been offering Vocal Embodiment classes, Tea and Song Ceremonies, and Singing Sound Baths at the Joshua Tree Music Festival and to private clients for the past four years, and is a lifelong ecstatic dancer.
Contact Elka via email to register for that.
